Blog- Life lesson as a Realtor

Prayer is like buying a home.

Several months ago, I found myself praying for a "situation." I remember thinking, "My prayers are going into this dark void." The timing to the answer of my prayer wasn't matching my deadline.

One particular evening, after pouring my heart out to God for the umpteenth time, God spoke to me in away this realtor could understand. "Prayer is like buying a house." A lot goes on behind the scenes the buyer isn't aware of. Immediately a memory with neon lights flashed in my mind.

Remembering back to the time I helped my friend Frances buy a home, struck a chord. I drove her all over her hometown looking for the right home to purchase. Finally we found a cute condo. After talking to the listing agent of condo "A". We submitted an offer. To our dismay, the offer was not accepted. Condo "B" was very similar, so we submitted a strong offer to that listing agent. Before it was reviewed by the seller, Condo "A's" offer backed out. Long story short we withdrew our offer from condo "B".

Here's where it gets interesting, the Seller died, before the offer got to him. His daughter was the sole heir, but she was busy with funeral arrangements. Poor Frances waited anxiously for 2 days before we heard anything about whether the offer was accepted. She was beginning to regret backing out of condo "B". I finally heard back from the listing agent, and it wasn't good.

"Mary, another buyer is looking at the condo. If they make an offer, I will also have to submit it to the daughter for review."

"You've got to be kidding me." I thought to myself. I chose not to call Frances. She did not need to worry about  another offer being accept during her garage sale that was currently happening. Instead I prayed, "Lord, work this out for us please." One hour later, the listing agent called congratulating me that our offer was accepted. "Thank you God, that I did not call Frances immediately. It would have been added stress."

As I thought about "prayer being like buying a home," I also thought about how the buyer doesn't see the title company searching for a clear title, the inspector inspecting the home, or the lender trying to process the loan. A lot goes on that the buyer isn't aware of. Her agent is keeping in contact with all the venders making sure deadlines being are met. The buyer is trusting her agent through the whole process. On closing day, after the papers are signed, is like the answer to prayer.

I'm still waiting for my "closing day" for my situation I've been praying about. I don't know what God is doing behind the scenes, but I trust Him through the process.
